Ketamine is a medicine developed more than 50 years ago for anesthesia during surgery, and has been used for that purpose since that time in children, adults, and animals. More recently, Ketamine has been found to be a valuable and highly effective treatment for depression, anxiety, and certain pain disorders. At low dose levels, given by intravenous infusions, Ketamine has proven to redevelop the neural pathways in your brain that have been damaged by chronic pain and depression. The amount of infusions needed will vary from patient to patient, but generally, there is an ‘Initial Infusion Series’ followed by ‘Maintenance’ or ‘Booster’ Infusions.
