Program Manager - Center for Neuroscience of Psychedelics

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:  

The Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital provides clinical services; conducts research; trains residents, interns and fellows; and contributes to the improvement of the health of the community. 

In recent years, research on psychedelic compounds have shown that they hold considerable promise in the treatment of diseases of the brain. The Center for Neuroscience of Psychedelics (CNP) is a new initiative that aims to focus on the neuroscience of psychedelic drugs, understanding how they change the brain and developing novel therapeutics using that knowledge. 

Reporting to the (MD) director of CNP, the program manager (PM) is responsible for the planning and implementation of on-going and one-time projects, as requested by the director. These projects are in the general areas of administrative leadership/management and organization, grant preparation, communications and managing CNP relationships. The PM works with people from a wide range of departments within MGH, representing several different role groups.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage CNP relationships with high level contacts including an advisory council of 15-20 national thought leaders and philanthropists
• Provide the director with decision support, research, and analysis 
• Strategically manage and identify media and speaking opportunities for the director, in collaboration with the MGH Office of Public Affairs
• Manage response to incoming requests, both internal and external
• Draft and edit communications 
• Maintain an inventory and registry of study proposals in the field; where they fit in the larger strategy; and what resources each may need
• Manage the finances and budget for CNP
• Facilitate preparation of grant and/or philanthropic proposals, including narrative and budget components
• Engage in managing ongoing donor relations, in conjunction with the MGH Development Office
• Organize and plan meetings and conferences
• Other projects as they arise and as directed by the director.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:  

The PM must be:

• Very well organized
• Very detail-oriented
• Able to multi-task and work on several projects simultaneously
• A quick learner who can pick up knowledge of a particular area that is necessary to plan and implement the project; some basic scientific training/knowledge is preferable,

The PM must have:

• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Exceptional project management skills
• A working knowledge of the field of healthcare technology
• Facility with both computer hardware and software systems, including expertise in PowerPoint
• Good judgment 
• The ability to successfully manage interactions with people from many different departments within MGH, vendors of goods and services, donors, and advisory council members
• Excellent communication skills-both written and oral
• Competency in financial analysis and budget management 

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS:  

NA

EDUCATION:  

• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in neuroscience or psychology.  Master’s degree in public health, business administration, or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:                     

• Five to ten years of related work experience required, preferably in a hospital or academic medical center environment.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

• The project manager is responsible for tracking funding that comes in to CNP through philanthropy and grants and analyzing spending.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Remote work currently; office environment in downtown Boston near Mass General.
