Senior Clinical Research Fellow in Psychiatry

The research programme in Psychedelic Research led by Robin Carhart-Harris focuses on the therapeutic potential and mechanisms of psychedelic compounds.

The post is funded by the Centre for Psychedelic Research. The post is for a senior psychiatrist who can work part-time within a clinical team in an upcoming trial looking at psychedelic assisted psychotherapy in the treatment of anorexia nervosa. The post-holder will provide psychiatric oversight of the recruitment and screening of trial participants and will work as a core member of the therapy team. This will include responsibilities in telephone and in-person screening, determining capacity to consent and obtaining consent, performing medical and psychiatric assessment, providing therapy and support, and providing patient follow-up. The post-holder will liaise with patient case teams in patient management throughout the trial. Additional responsibilities include providing medical cover, attending regular team meetings, liaising with patient care teams and GPs, timely and accurate data collection, and completing relevant training (e.g. GCP, MRI safety).

Duties And Responsibilities

• To provide medical cover for the trial
• To oversee psychiatric screening of potential patients
• To teach and provide mentorship for junior members of clinical team
• To co-ordinate the care of their own caseload of clinical trial patients
• To liaise with patients’ specialist care teams and GPs
• To recruit patients into the clinical trial
• To maintain good communication with nursing and medical staff
• To work with patients through therapy and trial follow-up
• To undertake relevant training (e.g., GCP, MRI safety and CRF inductions)
• Take an active role in the setting up and coordination of a clinical research study
• To ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times
• To maintain accurate and complete recordings of all findings
• To assist in the publication of findings
• To maintain accurate and timely data collection
• To run questionnaires and interviews with patients

Essential requirements

• MRCPSYCH or equivalent
• Full General Medical Council registration
• Must have minimum 2 years of UK training in psychiatry or anaesthesia
• Be on specialist register for CCT
• Previous work experience as a psychiatrist in eating disorder care
• Previous clinical mentoring/supervision experience
• Previous work experience or training in psychedelic assisted psychotherapy (e.g., in a previous trial, or training by MAPS or COMPASS)

This is a part-time post - 20 hours per week, fixed term from 1 st March 2021 until 28 th February 2022, and is based at our Hammersmith Campus.
